Cowboys Hockey

2004-2005 - Cowboy II

As much as the RIHL was a good thing for the Cowboys, it did present a bit of a roadblock for up and coming Cowboys. Underage player, Derek May had been grandfathered in, and special permission was given to also allow his brother Cory in the following year, but certainly no more under 30 players would be permitted. This was disheartening for the sons of players who, like Derek and Cory, had the eyes on one day playing for the Cowboys. Something had to be done.

In 2004 plans were put into place to form a young cowboys team and so Cowboy II entered the Coast Hockey League, also playing out of the Richmond Ice Centre. Joining the ranks were several sons of the May brothers, including Derek and Cory (now playing on two teams) along with Kyle, Todd and Clinton May.

Cowboy II would prove to be a very talented group of players reaching the top division in the Coast Hockey League after winning a Championship in Div 2. The new team would provide a talent feeder to the original team as players come to age, but the gap in years would take some time to be a real benefit to the older team.
